Our Staff
Executive Director - Ann Hogan
|
Ann was hired by Community Memorial
Hospital, Oconto Falls, in l980, to oversee their satellite clinics
which were federally-funded community health centers. The clinics
were located in Suring and Lakewood, and staffed with nurse practitioners.
Over the years, the Suring Clinic was taken over by the Oconto
Falls physicians and the Lakewood site continued as a federally-funded
site, but as an independent non-profit corporation. |
|
Because of Ann's educational
background and experience with finances, she ran the program
as grant writer, federal liaison, fiscal agent, employee of the
Board of Directors, and employer of all staff and providers.
Ann received her BA Degree at Rosary College, River Forest, Illinois
with a major in sociology and a minor in English and philosophy.
Ann keeps abreast of the health
care issues on the State and Federal levels by participating
annually in the training sessions offered by the State and National
Associations.
Ann has been a board member of
the Wisconsin Primary Health Care Association for 25 years and
she is completing her 6th term as treasurer of this association.
Ann has community board of director experience for a local bank,
Mountain Ambulance Service, Refuse District, Chamber of Commerce

DO (VS) MD
|
If you are like most people,
you probably don't know the differnce between a medical doctor
(MD) and an osteopathic doctor (DO).
DOs and MDs are alike in many
ways including:
- Applicants to both DO and MD
colleges typlically have a four-year undergraduate degree with
an emphasis on science courses.
- Both DOs and MDs complete four
years of basic medical education.
- After medical school, both DOs
and MDs can choose practice in a specialty area of medicine such
a psychiatry, surgery, obstetrics or sports medicine after completing
a residency program (typically two to six years of additional
training).
- Both MDs and DOs must pass comparable
state licensing examinations.
- DOs and MDs both practice in
fully accredited and licensed hospitals and medical centers.
- Both are medical doctors. MD
is specifically "Doctor of Medicine" while DO is "Doctor
of Osteopathic Medicine".
What makes a DO different?
- DOs can perform surgery, child
delivery, treat patients and prescribe medications in hospitals
and clinic settings.
- DOs look at the "total
person". Osteopathic physicians focus on preventive care.
Instead of just treating a specific symptom or illness, they
look at the whole body.
- DOs receive extra training in
the musculo-skeletal system, which is comprised of the nerves,
muscles and bones. This training gives DOs a better understanding
of how an injury or illness in one part of the body can affect
another part of the body; therefore, DOs have a therapeutic and
diagnostic advantage.
- DOs use what is called osteopathic
manipulative treatment (OMT). OMT is a technique in which the
DO uses his/her hands to diagnose an injury or illness, giving
special attention to the joints, bones, muscles and nerves. Manipultions
improve circulation, which in turn creates a normal nerve and
blood supply, enabling the body to heal itself.
